Yet another great Hitchcock. I don’t care much for the lengthy opening sequence, but otherwise a damn good time. Rating: 9

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind

Should have been more interesting. It just kinda sat there on the screen. Some funny bits, but I was mostly bored. The quirkiness of it seemed forced. Rating: 6

A Guy Thing

Bad on a catastrophic level. Bad, bad, bad, stinky awful bad. Zero chemistry between the leads. No discernible reason for them to like each other. No discernible reason for the audience to like any of them. Diarrhea jokes. Bad. Rating: 1

One of my favorites. Great adaptation of a great book. Nothing else to say. Rating: 10

The Killing

Another blind purchase for me, but I’d heard lots of good things about it, and I wanted to fatten up my Kubrick collection (still hesitant to make that Barry Lyndon blind purchase, though). Very watchable little film noir here, even though it has little of that Kubrick touch. Rating: 9

Lolita (rewatch)

I’d seen it before, but I enjoyed it even more the second time. I don’t know if I’d like this movie much without Peter Sellers. He really makes the movie. I should check out more of his work. Shelley Winters was really good in this, too. Rating: 9

I stopped paying attention about halfway through. Elizabeth really liked it, but I thought it was pretty cliched and formulaic. Rating: 4

Ginger Snaps

Ehhh. I really didn’t like the main characters, so that ruined it for me. Points for originality, I guess, but I just didn’t have fun watching it. Rating: 5

Trollflojten (The Magic Flute)
Posted by martinteller on January 1, 2003
After seeing three Ingmar Bergman movies (The Seventh Seal, Cries & Whispers, Wild Strawberries) and being blown away by all of them, I bought this one without much hesitation. Some hesitation because I’m not a big opera fan, and I knew this wouldn’t be anything like Bergman’s dramas. But I liked this a lot. I wanted more Papageno, though! The part where Papageno meets Papagena just fills my heart with joy. Great compositions, great performances, great direction. Rating: 9

About Schmidt

Really liked this as a contemplative character study. Jack’s career is so hit or miss, but films like this and As Good As It Gets show he’s still praiseworthy. I love this kind of bittersweet stuff. Rating: 8.
