Martin Teller's Movie Reviews

I watch movies, I write some crap

Star Wars (rewatch)

Posted by martinteller on October 2, 2004

Star Wars was a major part of my life for several years as a child.  I had the records and the Halloween costumes and the comics and the toys, toys, toys.  It will always be a part of me, I suppose.  It’s damn near impossible for me to judge the movie objectively.  I was slightly bored when watching this time… overfamiliarity, maybe?  Or is it a boring movie?  Or perhaps I was just a little sleepy.  All I can say is that seeing it widescreen again (for the first time in almost 30 years) wasn’t the thrill I thought it would be.  But somehow I know that if it was my first time, I’d be just as enchanted and entertained as I was when I was little.  Lucas crafts a world that is alien and yet totally recognizable, fully realized.  What it lacks in emotional or intellectual depth, it makes up for in sheer entertainment value per frame, and breadth of imagination.  Rating: 10
