Hannah and her Sisters (rewatch)

Lordy, what a cast. Michael Caine, Max Von Sydow (simply wonderful as an arrogant jerk), Mia Farrow, Dianne Wiest, Carrie Fisher, Maureen O’Sullivan and of course Woody. But that’s just the main players. The supporting cast is equally star-studded (though not all were stars at the time): Daniel Stern, John Turturro, Julie Kavner, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lewis Black, Sam Waterston, and my friend’s dad, Benno Schmidt. Now that the roll call (and the name-dropping) is out of the way, how about the movie? It’s tough to do multiple storylines like this, but Allen makes it work. I get really involved in the characters and interested in how they’re going to behave. Everyone goes through their own little crisis and comes out better for it. Although the very last scene is either a major oversight in the writing, or I missed something.
There’s nothing spectacular about Hannah, I just like it. It puts me in the mood to watch more Woody Allen, too. Rating: 8
