Martin Teller's Movie Reviews

I watch movies, I write some crap

I avoided this at first because I didn’t want to see someone else messing up Kieslowski’s work.  After seeing some other Tom Tykwer films, however, I decided to give it a shot, and I’m pleased.  It’s pure Kieslowski.  Sydney Pollack says on the DVD extras that Tykwer puts his own spin on it, but frankly I don’t see it — or maybe it’s just that the two directors are so similar that it’s already a good match.  Kieslowski’s typical moral ambiguity and quiet philosophical reflection are there in full, as are the perhaps-too-clever-for-their-own-good touches (e.g., Philippa/Filippo).  A lovely film and thoughtful.  Rating: 9
