Shadow of a Doubt (rewatch)

Posted by martinteller on March 25, 2007

I decided to replace my aging Universal Hitchcock DVDs with the spiffy “Masterpiece Collection” box set.  14 movies for 85 bucks, not a bad deal.  At first I was stubbornly determined to watch them all, but I opted to skip Saboteur and Frenzy because I watched them both in 2003 and I’m not especially fond of either.  Still, I intend to muddle through Topaz and Torn Curtain again (ugh), and it will be my first time for Family Plot, though I’ve heard nothing but bad things.

But first up is Shadow of a Doubt.  A lot of noir movies are about big-city evil lurking in a small town, but I think this is the best of them.  However, I must say the detective work is pretty shoddy at times.  Of course, it’s necessary for the story to keep Uncle Charlie out of the hands of the law, but it really does make Graham and Saunders look kinda foolish.  Rating: 9
