La chambre verte (The Green Room)

Truffaut himself stars in this film about a man obsessed with the dead and keeping their memories alive. It continues the trend of decent-but-underwhelming films from the latter half of his career. The subject matter (based on a Henry James story) is dark, but Truffaut seems to distance himself from it, there’s a rather dry and uninvolved tone throughout. I don’t know what happened to Truffaut in the early 70′s, he just kind of lost his spark. Not that this is a bad movie, far from it… but it’s hard not to contrast it with the earlier masterpieces and wish there was a little more oomph to it. Rating: 7
