Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Obviously, the famous “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” number is spectacular, one of the best musical productions on film. And there’s about 5 or 6 really really funny jokes. The rest of it is good, not great. The acting is good, the plotting and pacing is good, the songs are good (except the obnoxious opening), the gags are good, the photography is good. All good… but not great. Criticker predicted I would rate this movie a 76, and that’s exactly right. It’s a perfect example of a 76 — watchable and enjoyable with no huge flaws and a few bright spots, but not the kind of thing to get excited about. Rating: 7
