Martin Teller's Movie Reviews

I watch movies, I write some crap

Blast of Silence (rewatch)

Posted by martinteller on July 8, 2012

My dad was visiting, we were trying to decide on something to watch.  He said something like “You know a lot about noir, pick out a good one.”  I grabbed this and Asphalt Jungle, we went with this because it’s shorter.  I wanted to see it again anyway.  And I’m glad I did, it’s amazing.  I wonder how much (if any) this was an influence on Taxi Driver, with the misanthropic narration and the meticulous preparation of the gun.

Unfortunately, I just really don’t feel like writing at all right now.  I’ll write something more in-depth the next time, in the meantime here’s my first review of the film.  Rating: Great (94)

This might qualify for my Top 100 most overlooked films. The narration alone makes it a classic.

    • Someone on a messageboard I frequent just called the movie “cliché”. Say what?

“Remembering out of the black silence, you were born in pain.”

Whoever said that must have forgotten the maxim, “It’s the singer, not the song.”
