Hotel Magnezit

I have virtually nothing to say about this. It’s Bela Tarr’s first film, a ten minute short involving an old man accused of stealing something being evicted from a hostel. He bickers with some of the other residents before leaving. I imagine it might be some sort of commentary on the political situation, with lots of finger-pointing and talk about squealing and betrayal. But I don’t know, I didn’t really follow it that well. The acting appeared competent, the camerawork is amateurish and uninteresting but it is a first film. I neither condemn it nor recommend it, unless (like me) you’re just plugging your gaps in Tarr’s filmography. Rating: Fair (61)
