Slowing down

Posted by martinteller on August 11, 2012

A few months ago, I took a week off reviewing.  Once again, I find myself wanting a little time away from the movie grind.  But this won’t be a complete departure.  I have some non-movie stuff I want to attend to, but every now and then I will squeeze in a film.  I have at least one en route from the library, one more I want to rewatch before putting together my top 100 (which I swear is coming soon) and a bunch of great Blu-Ray releases coming up.  But I figure the frequency of reviews is going to slow down to roughly 2 or 3 per week for a while.  I’ll be back in full swing eventually.  I still have a ton of movies I want to see, I’ve just been itching to do other things lately.

  1. I’m putting together a new blogathon. It’s called “Winning Streak” and the idea is that you write about what you consider to be the most impressive unbroken run of great movies from a chosen film-maker. So for example mine would be Robert Altman’s run from Brewster McCloud (1970) to Nashville (1975) where in my opinion he made seven fantastic movies.
Let me know if you fancy taking part.

    • Sounds interesting, keep me in mind. I’d be tempted to do Tsai’s whole career, but I might go Satyajit Ray 58-64. Bergman’s tough because he manages to slip in a stinker every now and then.

It sounds like a good idea to refresh your movie urges by slowing down a bit. 2 or 3 movies a week is still a decent pace. No need to apologize about it!

    • Thanks, Jess! It’s actually looking more like it might 1 or maybe 2 a week for a while. But I’m not gonna let it bother me. When movies start to feel like an obligation rather than a pleasure, it’s a sure sign that it’s time to slow down!
