I’m not too interested in writing about Jaws, because really, what’s left to say? Anything I could write would be either cliché or stupid. There’s more than enough info and opinion about the movie out there already. Heck, the Blu-Ray includes not one but two feature-length documentaries (The Making of Jaws and The Shark Is Still Working, both worth seeing) with surprisingly little crossover between them, so anything you’d want to know about the movie — if you didn’t already — is there. Other reviewers have covered every aspect of it completely… one write-up I looked at just went on and on for paragraph after paragraph.
My personal take on it is that it’s a thoroughly entertaining movie without a single bad scene. Spielberg’s running at the peak of his formidable storytelling abilities. I don’t have as much fondness for it as I do for Raiders or Close Encounters, but it’s a damn watchable flick. Always fun to sit through. Rating: Very Good (87)
