Amadeus (rewatch)

Posted by martinteller on March 16, 2005

There are three stars to this movie: the exquisite costuming and set design, the glorious music of Mozart, and F. Murray Abraham.  Tom Hulce does pretty well, while Elizabeth Berridge is barely passable (one might guess she was hired solely on the heft of her bosom) but it’s Abraham who steals the show, turning in a astounding performance as the villainous Salieri.  The director’s cut of this movie causes some bloat, but adds valuable interaction between Salieri and Constanze, giving extra weight to their final confrontation.  Rating: 9
