Apocalypse Now (rewatch)

Posted by martinteller on September 17, 2006

Since I watched the “Redux” version last time, this time I went with the original cut.  I think I prefer the original cut more… not really because of the plantation scene in Redux that so many people hate, but because I think the final act (the Kurtz compound) goes on too long in Redux.  It goes on a little long in the original too, but the Redux is even longer.  Anyway, I still love this movie.  Very haunting and surreal, so many memorable scenes.  Besides the “Heart of Darkness” influence, there’s quite a bit of Aguirre in there too.  In fact, a deleted scene on the DVD is damn near a recreation of Aguirre‘s final scene.  Rating: 9
