Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (rewatch)

Posted by martinteller on February 18, 2008

I’ve praised the virtues of this movie enough in previous posts… it remains my favorite of the series by a mile, and is unlikely to be outdone, unless they bring back Cuaron for the final film.  I think one of the film’s greatest assets is the way we get to see the kids just BEING KIDS, having fun with magic without being so gosh-darned awestruck by it all the time.  This is exemplified in the very first scene (Harry reading under covers after bedtime) and the very last (Harry whizzing off on his brand-new broom), though there are plenty of other instances in between.  I still think the one mistake was not explaining the history behind the Marauder’s Map and Harry’s Patronus.  Granted, 90% of the audience will be familiar with the novel anyway, but it provides important and meaningful background information.  Rating: 10
