Religulous

Posted by martinteller on October 2, 2010

I’ll be honest: I enjoyed this film because I’m totally on Bill Maher’s side.  He’s preaching to the converted (very few religious-minded people are going to start questioning their beliefs because of this movie), and I’m one of the them.  Maher doesn’t dig very deep and doesn’t raise ideas that any good atheist hasn’t already pondered, but in such a Christian-soaked culture it’s nice to have our own crusaders, no matter how ineffective.  And who knows, maybe it will encourage some young people already starting to doubt their faith to keep doubting it.  Maher’s shtick is very entertaining if you don’t mind his occasionally smug and dismissive demeanor.  But look at the nutjobs he’s talking to, how can you not be smug and dismissive?  I thought some of the quick insert gags were a little stupid, though.  Rating: 7
