The Lunchbox

Posted by martinteller on February 13, 2015

I wish I had more to say about this movie, but maybe I just don’t feel like writing.  The movie is very tender and yet also somber, with both gentle humor and understated drama.  The premise rather reminded me of the Korean romance Il Mare (remade as The Lake House) but that’s a shallow association to make.  I guess The Shop Around the Corner (also remade, as You’ve Got Mail) is just as apropos.  Or non-apropos, in that this isn’t as much about romance — though it also isn’t not about romance — as it is about two lost and lonely people reaching out for someone to communicate with.  Very fine performances, especially by Irrfan Khan.  Rating: Very Good (82)
