Good Night, and Good Luck.

Not the masterpiece that some reviews are proclaiming it to be, and Clooney’s direction isn’t quite up to “brilliant” yet, but he’s definitely competent and has produced a very fine work here.  The black & white photography is sumptuous contrast-y goodness, and I think a smart move for this film.  Strathairn is ballsy and commanding as Murrow, and the supporting actors are all at least adequate (although Robert Downey Jr. almost seems to be doing a George Clooney impersonation).  The subplot about Downey and Clarkson was a nice parallel to the main story.  Rating: 8
