Sukumar Ray
Posted by martinteller on April 19, 2010
Satyajit Ray’s brief portrait of his father’s life. It was a very short life, cut down at age 36 by a tropical disease. In that time he made some significant contributions to the printing industry and carried on his father’s (i.e., Satyajit’s grandfather) work on “Sandesh”, the children’s magazine. The bits we see of Sukumar’s writing and art have a whimsical, Carroll-esque quality. The film is well-produced and reasonably interesting, with some more of Satyajit’s wonderful score. Rating: 7
